When the Miami-Dade School System would no longer sponsor their Chess Club, 50 Miami Beach kids and their parents turned to UNIDAD/MBHCC to keep their after-school Chess Club alive. As part of our commitment to Miami Beach youth and recognizing the enormous value of chess training towards academic development, UNIDAD/MBHCC Board adopted the program and committed our resources to keep the Chess Club functioning and to develop permanent funding.
The new Dade Community Foundation grant funds will allow MBHCC to offer the chess program to children currently on a waiting list.
With the support of Dade Community Foundation, beginners’ chess classes will start during this program year.
Currently, the advanced group takes part in the Chess Club that meets at the North Shore Youth Center, Saturdays from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm. |
